Growing up, my dad would take my brother and I on road trips across Canada and the States. Since we didn’t have a lot of money (and because my dad is cheap as bat shit), we slept in our ghetto Toyota Previa on nights when we couldn’t find a place to camp. Yes, all three of us in the back. It really sucked at the time, especially when it got to our teenage years. But the one thing that I will always remember is how much I loved the open road, not knowing where we were going to eat, sleep or bathe, along with the unexpected beauty and moments that revealed itself along the journey. Interestingly, now that I’m older, I find myself traveling the same way having learned that you don’t need to spend a lot of money to experience the magic that comes with traveling. Because all that it takes to experience the awe and wonder of adventure is by stepping into the unknown, not knowing what lies beyond the horizon.
About the site
One of my goals in life is to see as much of the world as possible in the short amount of time that we have on it. By sharing some of the stories and photographs from my journeys, I hope that you too will go out and have your own.
“We all start out knowing magic. We are born with whirlwinds, forest fires, and comets inside us. We are born able to sing to birds and read the clouds and see our destiny in grains of sand. But then we get the magic educated right out of our souls. We get it churched out, spanked out, washed out, and combed out. We get put on the straight and narrow and told to be responsible. Told to act our age. Told to grow up, for God’s sake. And you know why we were told that? Because the people doing the telling were afraid of our wildness and youth, and because the magic we knew made them ashamed and sad of what they’d allowed to wither in themselves.” – Robert McCammon
